1. Prioritize Water-Cooled Systems
The single most important decision for 45°C+ environments is the cooling method.
Air-Cooled Limitations: These units rely on ambient air to remove heat. In tropical heat, the "cooling" air is already too warm to be effective, forcing the compressor to work harder, which spikes energy bills and leads to frequent breakdowns.
The Water-Cooled Advantage: Water-cooled ice machines are independent of room temperature. Because water transfers heat far more efficiently than air, these units maintain peak output even when the surroundings are scorching. For high-capacity industrial needs, such as flake ice for seafood or concrete, water-cooled or evaporative cooling systems are the industry standard for stability.
2. Look for "Class T" (Tropical) Certification
Check the unit’s IEC 62552 climate classification. Most commercial units are rated "N" (Normal) or "ST" (Subtropical), which only handle up to 32°C or 38°C respectively.
