For an overseas ice plant, buying the main refrigeration equipment is only one part of the project. Large tanks, steel structures, lifting systems, local construction, international freight and installation interfaces can all influence how the plant is finally built.

This is especially true for large-capacity brine block ice systems. A recent 15T/24h industrial block ice machine project in the Dominican Republic shows why overseas projects often require more than a standard equipment package. Instead of asking the customer to ship every component from China, ICEMA worked with the project requirements to separate the core equipment from the parts that could be fabricated locally.

Supplying What Needs Factory Manufacturing

The customer plans to operate an ice factory producing 15 tons of block ice per day, with each block weighing 100 kg and one freezing cycle completed daily.

For this project, the key refrigeration and circulation equipment is supplied by ICEMA. These are the components whose selection and matching directly affect the operation of the ice-making system.

At the same time, the customer decided to build the brine tank locally and manufacture the ice cans, travelling crane and steel frame in the Dominican Republic.

This was not simply a matter of removing equipment from the quotation. The customer had a defined project budget, while several of these components are large structural items that can also create additional pressure on international shipping space and freight arrangements.

Local Fabrication Still Needs Engineering Support

Buying fewer components from the equipment supplier does not mean the locally fabricated parts can be planned independently.

A brine tank, for example, must work with the refrigeration system, brine circulation and ice can arrangement. If its dimensions or connection points are determined without considering the machine layout, problems may only become visible when installation begins.

For the Dominican Republic project, the customer requested local construction of the brine tank, while ICEMA provides the drawings and technical recommendations needed for the work.

The same principle applies to other locally fabricated structures. Before production starts, key dimensions, installation positions and connection requirements should be coordinated with the equipment manufacturer.

This is an important part of overseas project support: not every component has to come from the same factory, but every component still has to work as part of the same system.

A More Flexible Approach to Overseas Ice Plant Investment

For many overseas buyers, the best solution is not automatically the package with the largest number of supplied items.

Local fabrication capability, freight conditions, available budget and installation resources vary from one market to another. In some projects, supplying a complete plant may be the more practical choice. In others, keeping the core refrigeration system under factory supply while manufacturing large structural components locally can make better use of the customer's available resources.

The supplier's role is therefore not limited to selling an industrial block ice machine. It also involves helping the customer define the supply boundary and making sure that the factory-supplied and locally fabricated sections can be connected correctly.

From Equipment Supplier to Project Partner

Industrial ice plants are system projects. The refrigeration unit may be the core, but the final result also depends on tanks, circulation, lifting, structural support, electrical conditions and site preparation.

The Dominican Republic project demonstrates the value of a flexible project approach: manufacture the critical ice-making equipment where controlled production is required, support local construction with technical information, and adapt the supply scope to the actual conditions of the project.

For buyers planning a large-capacity block ice plant overseas, this ability to coordinate equipment supply with local implementation can be just as important as the machine itself.
